The May Court Club of Canada
From its earliest beginnings in 1898 to the present day, the goal of The May Court Clubs of Canada has been to raise funds to serve and support women and children in need.
May Court is the oldest service club in Canada, founded by Lady Isabel Aberdeen, the wife of Canada’s Governor General at the time. Lady Aberdeen had strong ideas about the role of women in society. She put her ideas into action and founded the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) and the Council of Women. To support these endeavours, she established The May Court Club of Canada.
Over the past century, May Court Clubs have grown to more than 1,500 members who volunteer in nine Ontario cities. All are driven by the same spirit and passion for making a difference in the communities in which they serve.
OUR STORIES
I joined May Court because my neighbour was a member at the time and she invited me to join. I was a stay-at-home mum with some time on my hands as my three children were all at school. My best memory was being President from 2002 to 2004. In 2003 our club hosted Association. I was so honoured to represent our club that year. I have made so many friends through May Court. I am very proud to be associated with so many vibrant, caring women.

I became a May Court member back in the beginning in 1968, having been invited by a neighbor to come along to an organizational meeting. As a Mom with three small children, all at home, I was anxious to find an opportunity to be involved in a community outreach activity and May Court fulfilled that role very well. Not only that, all of the people were adults! It was a plus! The group was small in those early days and we became very good friends, committed to making our community a better place, and aiming those efforts at women and children. My favourite memories are of sharing a common vision with a growing group of extremely capable women and of the work involved in the accomplishments. And most of all, we laughed a lot!
