KidsAbility Foundation

At KidsAbility, we support over 17,000 children and youth from birth to age 21 to reach their communication, social, physical and behavioural goals each year through pediatric rehabilitation services. We help them navigate the entire journey from childhood to adulthood, irrespective of diagnosis. We believe providing early and exceptional family-centred services for the wellbeing of children and youth is the most powerful way to build brighter futures.

Some of the key services we provide are to assess, diagnose, and provide clinical treatment, specialized programs and therapies, and specialized equipment and resources for children and youth with communication, physical or developmental needs. We also provide access to clinical expertise, consultation and support for families along their journeys with KidsAbility.

With the help of The May Court Club of KW the installation of a Sensory Room for our Behavioural Services and a sensory wall at our new Kitchener site have begun. Sensory rooms that are tailored for autism are crafted environments aimed at inspiring, engaging, and enhancing a child’s sensory experience within a secure setting. Specifically designed to captivate the child’s attention and encourage positive responses, these dedicated spaces employ carefully structured stimuli. Incorporating elements such as specialized lighting, vibrant colours, soft sensory play objects, and immersive sounds, the environment is carefully curated to facilitate interaction without posing any risks.

KidsAbility Behaviour Analyst, Monica, mentions the excitement of the pending sensory room at the new Kitchener site to serve our kids with Autism. She explains that “it gives our children a safe space to regulate during periods of over stimulation. We know that our kids find comfort in Sensory Rooms, and it helps build the connections with their therapists, so they are more willing to learn once regulated.” These safe spaces are so important for the support of our kids, and it helps their development to know that they have a place of their own.
