  • Many children with developmental disabilities have feeding problems.
  • Concerns range from extreme pickiness, inability to transition to solid foods, noticeable weight gain or loss, trouble swallowing, swallowing deficit, enhanced gagging reflexes or as life-threatening as aspiration.
  • Without treatment, these children are at risk for poor growth and arrested social and emotional development. In some cases, the issues are complex and profound; in others the right treatment at the appropriate time may prevent larger problems from emerging later.
  • At the Specialized Feeding Clinic, families are provided with a coordinated approach (Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist and Dietitian). They receive clear guidance on feeding in one combined appointment.
  • Safe and efficient feeding and swallowing skills will allow children to meet their nutritional requirements as they grow. It will also allow families to enjoy meals together.
  • The right treatment at the right time will prevent larger problems from emerging later. The therapy and counselling provided will lessen family stress, increase a child’s enjoyment of eating/living and enhance the quality of lives of children by addressing their feeding and nutritional concerns.
